Privacy Notice - Data Protection Act 1998
Westbury House School is a data controller for the purposes of the Data Protection Act. We collect personal information from our pupils and their families and may receive information about you from our pupil’s previous schools. We hold and use this personal data to:
- Undertake our annual admissions procedures;
- Support pupil learning;
- Monitor and report on their progress;
- Provide appropriate pastoral care, and
- Assess how well the School is doing.
- For marketing and fundraising purposes
- Publicise exam results
- Provide references to third parties including but not limited to other schools.
Information about pupils that we hold also includes contact details, examination results, attendance information and personal characteristics such as ethnic group and religious tradition, any special educational needs pupils may have and relevant medical information such as details of illnesses, allergies or other medical conditions. Financial information is held, including information about the payment of fees. We will not publish photographs of individuals alongside their names without the agreement of the appropriate individual.
On an annual basis, we are required by law to pass some information about pupils to the Department for Education (DfE) and the Independent Schools Council (ISC). This data is of a statistical nature and does allow for the identification of an individual pupil or his family.

We will not give personal information about any pupil to anyone without written consent unless the law and our policies allow us to. WHS will disclose details of a pupil’s medical condition where it is in the pupil’s interests to do so, for example in a medical emergency, for insurance purposes or to organisers of School trips. Where the School receives a disclosure request from a third party it will take reasonable steps to verify the identity of that third party before making any disclosure. If the data requested can be anonymised the School will release the information in this form.
