This week we visited Butser Farm to learn about The Celts, Romans and Saxons. We spent the whole day there! Initially we sat inside a ‘ROUNDHOUSE’, typical of the kind of house the Celts would have been living in when the Romans invaded in 43AD.

We also looked at a reconstructed Roman villa and all the beautiful rooms. This building was quite a contrast! We looked at the magnificent mosaic on the living room floor and the underfloor heating (which the Romans invented). Manha even demonstrated how to sit on a Roman toilet!

We made our own mosaics, jewellery, spun wool and dug up artefacts like real archaeologists do and Helen guided us around the site. We learned an enormous amount about history, which enhanced our topic. Our teacher Helen was a real archaeologist, so she was a great expert for us to have as our guide.
