The new Mathematics Programme of Study states that ‘Maths is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment.’

At Westbury House School we place great emphasis on this subject, closely following not only the objectives of the national curriculum, but being cognisant of the aims and requirements of the ISEB – Independent Schools Examination Board. Our hope is that our pupils will develop an enjoyment of the subject, gain confidence to reason independently, think logically and apply skills learned to solving real life problems.

We aim to meet all individual needs, extending the more able and supporting those who find the subject challenging. Regular practice in mental calculation and in investigation is timetabled. In Year 6, pupils have the opportunity to participate in local and national competitions.
